Objectives

For motivated secondary school pupils to study after school with like-minded others to pursue their intellectual curiosity. In a university atmosphere of very small classes, students explore complex ideas and scholarly expertise across a range of subjects.

Programme

Course programme

The programme offers extra tuition in the key academic study skills and helps students to refine their skills and their confidence.

The lessons are taught by experienced tutors in small groups in a very comfortable teaching environment.  This helps students to relax and approach the work calmly and at their own pace. Students receive a lot of personal attention from the tutors which helps them to make good progress and increase their confidence.

  • Term-time early evenings, Monday to Thursday, 16.30 - 18.30 hrs.
  • 8 pupils per class at most
  • Location: OISE Newbury Study Hall, Enborne Road, Newbury RG14 6AD

 

  • The School Extension programme helps students to express their intelligence with clarity and strengthen and sharpen their academic study skills.  As each term progresses, pupils develop their ability to:

    • analyse academic documents and discourse
    • structure their understanding of issues
    • shape their ideas into coherent arguments
    • compose written and spoken responses

    Lessons enliven and refine the intellect. Tuition is liberating and exacting. Key aptitudes are practised and polished.
     

  • Skills taught include:

    •  essay writing skills
    •  argumentation
    •  articulate commentary on text or audio/visual clip
    •  organisation of thoughts and ideas into coherent and articulate written work
    •  practice in speaking aloud and expressing well-researched opinion
    •   self expression.
