TOEIC

The TOEIC tests, created and administered by an organisation based in the United States, aim to assess the candidate's linguistic knowledge in a professional context. The tests are used by employers around the world to assess a candidate’s suitability to work in an English-speaking environment.

 

The TOEIC format 

There are two TOEIC tests that a candidate can choose to take, The TOEIC Listening and Reading Test, and the TOEIC Speaking and Writing Test.

 

The TOEIC Listening and Reading Test

This is a comprehension test which lasts two and a half hours, and consists of two hundred multiple choice questions divided as follows: 

  • Listening: 100 questions (duration: 45 minutes) 
  • Reading: 100 questions (duration: 1 hour 15 minutes) 

 

The TOEIC Speaking and Writing Test

This test lasts approximately one and a half hours, and consists of:

  • Speaking: 11 questions (duration: 20 minutes)
  • Writing: 8 questions (duration: 60 minutes) 

 

Scoring

The TOEIC Listening and Reading test scores each section on a scale of 5-495 points, leading to an overall score of 10-990.

 

The TOEIC Speaking and Writing test scores each section separately on a scale of 0-200.
